Do people stare at me like I’m nuts? What’s the secret to pulling off a summer scarf? Well, here are a few ways to rock that trend, without getting stared at like a total weirdo.
Ways To Wear A Head Scarf
First, it comes down to the actual scarf. Choose something light and breezy, like this sheer orange scarf. Anything knit or thick is just too heavy for the summer months and best reserved for the fall.
Beautiful prints and bright colors also make for great summer scarves, like this Halogen scarf (on sale!) and this silky Kate Spade scarf which is oh-so-darling. Speaking of silky, this material is another great bet for a beautiful summer scarf.
Look for a scarf that’s proportionate to your size; the scarf shouldn’t look like it’s swallowing you! While it’s ok to do the big chunky scarf thing for winter, it’s just not right for a summer look. So yes, put that blanket scarf away until it’s fall or winter!
Four Ways To Style Silk Scarves This Summer
The way you tie your scarf in the summer is also key.If you’re looking for some inspiration on how to tie that scarf, check out this video that shows 25 ways to tie a scarf…in 4.5 minutes! But, take note: some of these styles are best reserved for fall. You wouldn’t be tying your scarf like a turtleneck or have a big thick knot in the summer months. Think: loose and easy, breezy styles.

Summer scarves are great layering pieces for summer, especially if you live somewhere hot like I do have extreme temperature swings. You can also easily stash them in your purse so you can wrap one on at a cool restaurant or put it away when you’re outdoors.
If you’re looking for a designer splurge, try a resale website like The Real Real. I’ve been eyeing a silk Gucci scarf on there and an Hermès one, too. Those items never go out of style and always look chic and classy! A designer scarf is also a good entry-level piece to add to your designer stash.Ever since I got back from Paris I’ve been obsessed with scarves. They’re the number one accessory for French girls. I already did a video on 12 ways to tie a silk scarf. So today I wanted to show some outfit ideas using a longer wrap scarf. I especially like long scarves for travel. They’re great to use as a wrap on the plane. They’re easy to pack and to store in your purse when it starts to get warm. And they can add a fun pop of color if you go for a summery print like my lemon scarf. I don’t know about you but it makes me crave a trip to Italy!
Stylish Summer Scarves
During the day, I usually wear longer scarves with tees. You can wear them with a solid t-shirt, or mix prints like I did with my striped tee. I went with white skinny jeans but if you’re scared of spilling while you travel (I usually keep a Tide pen in my purse) a pair of blue denim works equally as well. Throw on some espadrille flats and you’re good to walk all day!
For night, I simply swapped my tee for my fave cami and belted my scarf to make it look like a top. It’s a great trick to use if you don’t have too much room in your suitcase while traveling. I kept the same bag and just added some chunky heels and statement earrings to dress up the look a bit more for dinner.
I hope these two ideas help you if you’re planning what to pack for a summer vacation… or if you just want to spruce up your wardrobe at home!
