UCI offers exciting and diverse academic and professional opportunities throughout the United States—including New York City. Launched in 2020, UCI in NYC is an innovative program that supports students who are interested in exploring career paths in New York, offers an annual series of summer events for students who are in New York City and brings together UCI alumni practicing in the New York metropolitan region.
Each summer, UCI students who plan to be in New York have the opportunity to participate in a ten-week series of educational and social events.

Under the guidance of a full-time member of the UCI faculty, students are invited to gather for roundtable discussions with leading figures from the New York legal community, including judges, partners in major firms, yers working at investment funds and financial institutions, yers working at legal aid organizations, prosecutors in the Southern District of New York, human rights advocates and United Nations officials.

Every other week during the program, students are invited to participate in -themed activities throughout the city, such as visits to the New York Stock Exchange, the Tenement Museum, the High Line public space project, the New York-Historical Society, and a theater outing featuring -related issues.
UCI alumni are encouraged to participate in the program as a way to mentor current students and to meet one another.
As part of the UCI in NYC program, the Career Development Office and the UCI Externship Program help students learn about professional opportunities in New York, including summer positions following 2L year and externships that take place during the academic year and summer.
Uc Irvine Law Withdraws From Usnwr Annual Rankings
Throughout the year, UCI alumni in the New York metropolitan region have several opportunities to meet one another at social events and to participate in programs featuring UCI faculty.'s School of Law is the first public law school in California in nearly 50 years. Fulfilling a longstanding vision of the campus, the school opened its doors to its first class of 60 law students in 2009. Today, the Law community includes more than 50 full-time faculty members and over 400 students.
Law is an innovative and visionary law school focused on training talented and passionate lawyers. It is driven by academic excellence, intellectual rigor and a commitment to enrich communities through public service. From the outset, its goal has been to create one of the top law schools in the country and to prepare students for the practice of law at the highest levels of the profession. Law faculty members are accomplished thought leaders from around the country with a broad range of expertise. The school's curriculum is innovative, challenging and hands-on with an emphasis on strategic problem-solving. Clinical education is a cornerstone of the experience at Law. Each student is required to participate in a clinic and many students engage in pro bono work. Since opening our doors, 92 percent of Law students have provided more than 60, 000 hours of pro bono legal services for the poor and underserved – locally and beyond.

Students develop practical legal skills through public interest work in core clinics including appellate litigation; community and economic development; criminal justice; domestic violence; environmental law; immigrant rights; intellectual property, arts, technology; and international justice. The school also offers elective clinics in topics such as fair employment and housing rights; civil rights litigation; international human rights; reproductive justice; and startup and small business issues.
The School of Law also is highly interdisciplinary, with many faculty members holding joint appointments across the campus. Students can take courses in other fields and can earn joint degrees in almost any area. A robust array of programs complements the school's curriculum including speaker series and a myriad of student organizations.

The school received its founding gift from the Donald Bren Foundation to endow 10 faculty chairs and a dean's chair. It also received generous support from the Joan Irvine Smith and Athalie R. Clarke Foundation and Mark P. Robinson Jr.

Austen Parrish is the third Dean of University of California, Irvine School of Law, starting his position in August 2022. Previously, he served as the Dean and James H. Rudy Professor of Law at Indiana University Maurer School of Law (2014 – 2022), where in 2022, he was awarded the Provost’s Medal, the highest honor bestowed by the Office of the Provost, recognizing outstanding and transformative contributions to Indiana University Bloomington. Dean Parrish’s research and teaching interests focus on transnational law, transnational litigation, and the role that national courts and domestic institutions play in solving global challenges. Dean Parrish is active in a variety of national organizations focused on legal education. He is an elected member of the American Law Institute, a member of the board of directors of AccessLex Institute, a member of the Executive Committee of the Association of American Law Schools, and a member of the AALS Deans Steering Committee. Dean Parrish’s degrees are from the University of Washington (BA) and Columbia University (JD), where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone scholar.
Law is No. 7 among public universities and No. 23 overall in the U.S. News and World Report ranking of Best Law Schools.
